  AVCHD importing and exporting

  I’m importing HD mp4s and as soon as they are on the timeline, their quality is degraded. Any advice on how to keep the clips in HD through the editing and exporting process?

  Based on how they look on the canvas on your computer screen? Have you used log and transfer and imported them as ProRes? Is the timeline native to your footage (no coloured bars?) If yes to all, note that the canvas IS NOT full quality for playback (even less so with the RT settings not set to full, which they may be). You can only see full quality on an external video monitor, connected via the camera/deck or capture/playback card.

  Unfortunately, as AVCHD cameras replace DV/HDV cameras, the ability to do this via the camera is lost, hence this question being asked numerous times here.
