I noticed doing a test edl that no keycode information is coming out. When I get info on the clips all the logging information is there. Key Number, camera roll, film roll etc. Any ideas if I have a setting wrong some where or have totally messed this up some how?

    thx

[phil Bucci] “I noticed doing a test edl that no keycode information is coming out.”

did you build a database with KeyCode for each file?

Or are you magically expecting it to appear in your clips without loading that info in somewhere?

Thank you for the sarcasm, yes the DB is built. reversed the clips from cinema tools then brought those clips into final cut.

[Phil Bucci] “yes the DB is built. reversed the clips from cinema tools then brought those clips into final cut. “

FYI for your amusement- there have been a number of people that have asked that question without ever having built the DB- its the “Miracle Happens”syndrome.

Have you kept the link to CT to maintain the Keycode?

you will need walk thru your workflow if you want assistance.

I hope you can find a error in my steps other wise I don’t know what is going on.
Import the flex into cinema tools
export a batch list for final cut
import the batch list to final cut capture from there
assign the clips in cinema tools and batch reverse
import those clips to final cut and start working

If there is a correct way or easier way I am all ear’s.
    thx
    Phil

I didn’t think it was possible to make an EDL with keycode in it… unless I’m missing something?

Did you try “FILE>EXPORT>Cinema Tools Film lists…”?

(but the rest of your workflow looks fine to me!)

I have not tried the cinema tool list I will tonight. I feel some thing has gotten fouled up some where because the TC that has come out on the EDL does not correctly respond to anything.

If any one can direct me to a good workflow tutorial i’d be much appreciate.

Phil, it is hard to give you advice with so little info about your workflow. You are saying the TC on the edl does not match the source tapes? Did you verify the timecode was correct when you ingested the footage? Do you have visual TC burn in on the tape you can compare to the EDL?

It may be as simple as manually fixing the timecode on your source clips using “Modify>Timecode…”

    Hello Mr. Adcok,
I have also some questions about Keycodes, Final Cut 7 and Cinema Tools. I hope you don’t mind to help me.
I’m going to start working on a film shooted on 35mm 3p and I’m going to receive de footage from the lab in Apple ProRes.
What would be the best workflow? I did a test doing the following:
    1) Import the Quicktimes to my hard drive.
    2) Open a new database in Cinema Tools and then import the ALEfile from the lab.
    3) Then, still in cinema tools, I opened each file and connected them with the Quicktimes. I had to correct a lot of them because the key and Timecode information was wrong a lot of the times. Is that usual?
    4) I could see that there is a pop up menu where I can choose between 35mm 3p and ·1/·2/·3. I think this is about the perforations. Do I have to be carefull abut that?
    5) After correcting, I conformed the QT to 24fps.
    6) Then, I went to Final Cut and imported the Quicktimes from my hard drive, but I couldn’t see the keycode information of the clips in the browser (the keyNumber Column was empty). Eventhough, I could create a film list and it was fine.

Do you think I missed some part of the process that I couldn’t see the keynumbers? Do you theink this workflow is the best way to do it?

Thank you so much for your help!

    Regards,
    N.
