  .mov file is way to big, what file type should i use?

  I recently finished a video for school, its about 9 and a half minutes long, and when I export it, it comes out as a .mov file and is 2.6 gb big. Why is it so big? It just doesnt seem right to me. How can I export it so I can burn it on a dvd with a few other movies as well. Thank you.

  Do you want this to be a playable DVD or do you just want to use the DVD to store the Quicktimes?

  If you want the former, send it to Compressor and make the mpeg 2 for the DVD

  If you want the latter, export it through Quicktime Conversion as a H.264.

  Of course that all depends on what you want the FINAL PRODUCT to be.

  Sounds like the right size if you’re exporting your video ‘as it is’, with current settings, from FCP – if you’re working in DV.

  But this is usually not a distribution/playback format. More like a full-quality Quicktime master file for you to keep. As Ari mentioned, there are a few options for final formats you can convert to.
