Need to import Quicktime without render
Hey forum – at a conference and need some help.
Specs: MacPro Quad / Snow Leopard / Quicktime 10 / FCP7.
Problem: need to correct a 10 frame audio drift without long render in FCP.
Workflow:
1) capturing footage from 2 cameras in Vidblaster (to edit on the fly). It only saves as WMV (or massive AVI). WMV file is 10mbps – pretty high rez.
2) Purchased Flip4Mac and save the WMV file as a Quicktime. Import the Quicktime into FCP.
3) Adjust audio and then try to send to Compressor. FCP wants to render. ARGH.
4) Is there any way I can export the WMV from Quicktime in a certain codec so FCP doesn’t want to render? That would rock. These files are two hour session and I can’t afford the render time.
Any advice most appreciated!

What kind of QT file are you making with Flip4Mac to bring into FCP? Dors your sequence setting match the QT file parameters? Mismatched file and seq settings are usual cause for unexpected rendering.

Why does the audio drift and what needs to be rendered -video or audio? How are you fixing the drift?
Perhaps if we solve the real issue the render issue will be moot.

hey thanks – this has turned into a nightmare.
how do you setup the sequence for that and what is the best codec for bringing into Final Cut? Yesterday I was encoding them as Prores 422 and three of them worked but still required rendering times of 20 minutes per hour of footage or so.
The last three just crash Final Cut and Compressor when sending to compressor and/or fail in compressor.
Dying here….thought Apple codecs would mean a smooth ride. Not so much.
