  “Unable to locate timecode” error on batch capture??

  I am tying to capture HDV/24P material in Final Cut using the Sony M35U deck and continue getting the above error for about 25% of clips during the “Batch Capture” As a workaround I’m having to capture the problematic clips with “capture now” which captures the same time-codes flawlessly every time without a problem? This leads me to believe there is not actually a timecocde problem but something is going wrong between Final Cut’s communication with deck?

  I have tried all the recommendations I am reading online:
  -change pre & post roll settings
  -unchecking “abort capture on dropped frames”

  The error persists, I’m stumped? Any hints are much appreciated.

  If you can get your hands on the camera that shot the footage you may have better luck. Particularly with a well-used camera, the heads can be worn and/or starting to be out of alignment. Same is true of a deck. Maybe that’s happening. At the least try a different deck or camera and see what happens.
