  EDL Conformation for DI on Baselight

  Hi All,
  am an indie filmmaker who has just finished shooting and editing a 100 minute feature shot on HDCAM (Sony CineAlta F900R) @ 24p. The offline codec was DVCProHD.

  Owing to various circumstances (budgetary and other) I am forced to do my EDL conforming and DI on Baselight at separate studios in different cities. The reason for this is that my DI studio’s HD recorder has packed up. As such, I was about to do an online using Macpro (FCP), an HD recorder and hard disk, capturing my footage on 4:2:2/10-bit uncompressed on a hard disk.

  But apparently, the only way I can take my online final cut on to Baselight for grading in the absence of a HD recorder is by means of a data file – DPX. Am completely clueless how to go about this! If anyone knows a workflow methodology I can adopt under these singular circumstances would really be grateful! Am rushing towards a festival deadline and don’t want to screw up! Thanx…

  Hi Sidharth,

  I’m not sure if I understand your post exactly. You are using two separate studios. One to do the HD conform and one to do the grading and film output?

  The best thing to do is to speak to the technical folks at these facilities and figure out between everyone a workflow that satisfies everyone. But I imagine that whoever is doing the conform will be using Smoke or similar? They should have the ability to output a hard drive filled with DPX files, which you could send directly to the baselight facility.
