We shot two of six interviews in 1080p 23.98 before finding out that the client’s animator wanted footage for PAL use in 25fps. Since then we’ve been shooting in the requested format, but now need to edit with both frame rates in FCP (7.0.1).

I’d prefer to convert all the 23.98 footage to be editing from a common 25fps archive, rather than piecemeal conforming clips. I’ve read about sync issues using either Compressor or FCP to do the conversion. Cinema Tools seems to be the consensus recommendation but I’ve never used it and don’t know how it relates to Compressor (if at all).

I’d appreciate any advice on best methods using these tools, with the goal of maintaining image & audio quality for this very high-end footage being a priority. Thanks!

The Cinema Tools manual is an online PDF that you access through the Help menu (likewise for the Compressor manual, BTW).

CT has a batch conform feature. You point it to the folder that contains the media you want to conform and it will do all of the files.

The conversion is very quick, there’s no transcoding, it merely changes the speed that the media plays back at.

But the conversion alters the actual media file, so if you want to keep an original 23.98 copy, you’ll need to copy the files before you run the batch conform.

For more information, I will refer you to the afore mentioned CT manual.
