    Hello,

    I am looking for the best way to convert xdcam ex 50i to a 24fps TIFF sequence. I have to deliver this to make a DCI/JPEG 2000.

    They ask for:

    1.1. Picture track

    · TIFF format 16-bit data structure (uncompressed files)
    · X’Y’Z’ color space through a 2.6 Gamma value. If the TIFF files are provided in RGB format, it is
    assumed to be the ITU Rec709 coded with a 2.2 Gamma value. Colour space is converted to DCI
    specification X’Y’Z’ during the encoding process.
    · 24 fps. Material submitted in frame rates other than 24fps will have their speed adjusted during
    encoding to correct the frame rate to 24fps.
    
    1.2. Sound track

    · 6 channels soundtrack
    · Broadcast WAV files
    · 24-bit data structure
    · Sampling frequency: 48 KHz
    · Reference level: -20dBfs
    · Sound Speed: 24 fps
    · Mono files split with the same segmentation as the picture track, each file properly named (channel
    id and reel number)
    · Clear synchronization mark (beep, start, first sample = first frame of action, …) is required for each
    reel.

    Great.
    To get the 50i to 24p would be just a matter of using a good de-interlacer to go to 25p; then conform in CinemaTools.
    The problem I see is how to get the TIFF with these color specs.
    QT support 16b RGB stills and movies, but FC doesn’t.
    Photoshop may be the solution. Now it have a lot of video capabilities and sure is able to work in 16b.
    I think that AE can export 16b PNG and TIFF without problem, but I have no experience with that.
    The audio shouldn’t be a problem.
    You will need to slow it down a 4%.

    You can use Compressor to make a TIFF sequence, but it appears to be limited to 8 bits/channel.

    You can use AE, but you must set up a 16 bit or higher project if you want all of your color information to pass through. In AE, you must make sure that you interpret the footage to separate fields to deinterlace.

    You can use Photoshop as well, any version after CS2 can import a QT movie and export that as a movie or image sequence. Deinterlacing is applied as a filter to the QT movie in Photoshop.

    Do not worry about the frame rate of the picture, you are going to export or render frame-for-frame from video to the image sequence. The shop making the DCP will interpret that as 24fps. Voila, it’s pulled down from 25 to 24! You will, however, need to discuss the audio with them. You may have to slow down the audio for them if they can’t do it for you.

    Hey Guys,

    Thanks for the info. I used AE to make the tiff sequence. Just saw the final DCI/movie on the big screen. It looked very good!!!
