    Hi,

I work with FCP5 on a MacPro OSX.
I did not have any crash or failure but suddenly the “open recent” choice is not showing anymore in the “file” menu.
Anyone knows how to fix that problem?

    Thank you

Go to the User Preferences in the FCP menu and check to see if “List Recent Clips” is still set up the way you had it previously. If not then change the number of recent clips to what you want and then try again.

If that doesn’t work you might try trashing FCP’s preference files and restarting the program.

If you trashed your preferences recently that would have wiped out the recent list.

Found this thread in the search and I have a question.

I can only get 4 “Open Recent” project files to display. Each new one drops the oldest. “User Preferences/List Recent Clips” is set to 10. Am I adjusting the wrong setting” Are these two items unrelated? Is FCP set to an unchangeable default of listing only 4 recent projects to open?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Mark,
I am having a similar issue, where I am working on about 10 different projects, and because they are all different sizes and formats, and spread across several HDDs I need to keep them separated.
It would be so much easier if I can see a list of all ten when I select “Open Recent”.
It takes a while to navigate through all the storage devices looking for the project names.
Hopefully someone will see this thread I have re-ignited, and perhaps we will get some help/answers.
Did you get any information which helped you to increase the number of projects listed under”Open recent” ?
The ‘List Recent Clips’ preference is the only one I have seen referred to in any other forums or guides.

Thanks for any and all help!

PS: Bring on Final Cut X !!! I have held out, while so many of my colleagues have jumped ship to AVID and even Premiere Pro!!!! So hard to explain why I purchased 24 GB RAM for my Mac Pro editing suite, but my editing application can only use 10% of it!!!!!! Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I’m still in the same boat. Unfortunately, I think my question was too lame for this forum to bother with an answer! I searched the subject, but could find nothing.

I have all my project files in the same directory now, so I’ve just learned to search and find.

Well, to be honest, I’m still in the same boat too.
The problem is resolved when I trash the preferences but it keeps returning.
I think especially when I work with project on different hard disks.

Don’t know how to solve this.

[Tim Roane] “I am having a similar issue, where I am working on about 10 different projects, and because they are all different sizes and formats, and spread across several HDDs I need to keep them separated.”

Sorry, that does not compute Tim. Why do you need to keep them separated?

Where you store your project files has nothing whatsoever to do with the hard drives on which your media is stored. you should store all of your project files on your system drive, and the best and easiest way to do that is store them all in a single directory.

I would advise that you create a directory on the root of the system drive called “1 FCP Project Files,” which will insure that it is the very first item on the root drive. Then, you can drag that folder from it’s place in the Finder of that drive over to the left hand side and drop it into the list of “Places” so that you can get to it with just a single click anytime from any open Finder window.
