    Hi, Thank you in advance!

I recently picked up a JVC-HD 100U and I’m trying to figure out the workflow… I’ve never used HDV before. the initial problem I ran into was that I captured to an external scratch and the footage doesn’t capture in real time… no big deal…
But when i play it back once i’ve captured it, the clip plays back at double speed. The audio is normal, but anything I capture looks really slow as I’m capturing it, and than really fast once its finished.
It’s not the tape I used b/c I tested another tape- same problem… Possibly the output settings on the JVC?

The footage looks normal speed when i play it back in the camera viewfinder, It only looks wrong when I capture.

    Hi Nicolas,
The footage only can be captured in real time: As gets in your system must be wrote down somewhere. if this doesn’t happens is because your HD is not up to the task.
Are you using an USB HD, or a FAT-32 formated HD?

If you have FCP6 or FCP7 capture as ProRes. This eliminates a lot of problems people had with timecode breaks etc with this series of cameras. Whilst it creates larger file sizes it also gives a much better editing experience.

Here’s how to do it. https://www.steadi-onfilms.com.au/vlog/?p=61

My hd is an “Iomega HDD” formatted for Mac OS “extended”… I only have one firewire port on my computer, so in order to capture, I daisy chain the camera through the 2nd firewire port on the HD.

I found out right after i posted, that when i switched recording format to HDV-30p instead of 24p, That i no longer have the problem of capturing double speed. looks like i will be shooting 30p.

This makes me again that you have a problem with your HD.
When you capture 24p, FC is discharging a 20% of the picture, so you are recording a lighter file.
Download the AJA System Test utility and check the write/read speed on your HD.
You may have a HD fast enough and with room enough, but if the directories are a mess, the HD may run very slow.
