I have a ton of photos to work with on my next project. The sizing is all over the board and I don’t want to have to conform them all to a size before I start.

Is it possible to have AE automatically scale all these objects as I place them into the timeline? Scale to best fit would be great as I am not going to scale these pics too far off the best fit dimensions.

Currently when I drop them into the timeline or project window they retain their origial scale at 100%, most way too huge for this project.

Would save me a ton of time!

    Thanks!

Select all layers in the timeline and CTRL+ALT+F. Does the same thing but only after the clips are in the timeline. You could also batch them in Photoshop.

Well, this probably isn’t much help, but below are two keyboard short cuts to fit layers to the screen while preserving aspect ratio.

Stretch layer to fit horizontally, preserving frame aspect ratio

    Ctrl + Alt + Shift + H

and to do the same, vertically

Stretch layer to fit vertically, preserving frame aspect ratio

    Ctrl + Alt + Shift + G

So after a little trial and error you’d know what works with various footage. Whether to go horizontally or vertically. If that makes any sense. There should be a way to do this with expression, but that’s above my paygrade.

Yikes! Bitten by the “I’m stuck in an AE6.5 world” again. Time to upgrade.
