Dealing w/ DVCPRO HD 1080p30 Footage
I shoot footage to P2 media using a Panasonic HVX200 in 108024p, which imports into FCP as DVCPRO HD 1080p30, with a frame rate of 29.97 (this is pulldown being added on my import, correct?). My delivery is mostly for the web and DVD, so I have been fine editing in a DVCPRO HD 1080p30 timeline. My question regards outputting edit masters to tape and backing up camera ISOs to tape for archival purposes:
Should I edit in a DVCPRO HD 1080i60 timeline, or stay in a DVCPRO HD 1080p30 timeline? I believeIf anyone has any insight or workflows that could help I’d appreciate the help. Thanks. -

No. It means that no pulldown was REMOVED when imported. 1080i always records at 29.97. If you shot 1080i 24p, then you have the 24p look at 29.97. If you shot 1080i 24pA, then you can remove pulldown to get to 23.98. If you didn’t shoot 24pA, then your footage will import as 29.97.

Why not drop the clips into the timeline and have FCP sort that all out for you. It will adjust the sequence to match the footage. And since most tape formats are 29.97, and nearly all networks require 29.97 masters, then you should be golden.

I do let FCP adjust the sequence to the footage, but I’m unsure how to output to tape. My footage and the sequences are DVCPRO HD 1080p30, this will output to tape at 29.97 automatically?

1080p30 is a 29.97 format. So yes.
1080i60 is a 29.97 format…FYI.

My sequence is showing up as Non-Drop Frame in the timeline’s TC window, but in the Browser shows up as being 29.97fps, it’s a bit confusing.

You are confused about what NON DROP frame means. The video speed will always be 29.97fps. Drop or non-drop. That refers to the TIMECODE NUMBERS. Drop frame means that 2 numbers…not frames…are dropped every minute, except for every 10 minutes, to ensure that your show timing is correct…because video doesn’t run at 30fps straight up, it runs slightly slower. Non-drop doesn’t mean 30fps…it just means that no numbers are dropped in the timecode.
