Trying to look for a quick solution
Need to get a quick down and dirty monitor solution.
i was going to install another video card and then hook a third computer monitor and view it that way.
Does not HAVE to be color critical. Just trying to view and cant go the AJA route like in the studio.
So what are people doing for a good inexpensive solution to the AJA route

I know that is what i was looking at for a third monitor. 24 inch HD for
around $300.what card though?

You can get a Matrox Dual Head2Go or Triple Head2Go. It will allow you to plug 2 or 3 monitors into a single DVI port on your Mac.

Do you have one? Have you experienced any issue with these?
I like the Triple. Looks to keep it digital.

I have the TripleHead2Go. The only issue I have is that any dialog window pops up in the middle…so it is split between both monitors. Other than that, nothing horrid. I use this setup with my MXO when I work on Avid projects, so I can have the MXO on one DVI out to my external monitor.

I use both the analog and digital versions of the dual. We use them for sterescopic 3d, and they work as advertised. And I agree with Shane, it’s annoying that dialog windows pop up right smack in the middle of the split.

I know this is off topic…but what is your AVID setup? Do you run Media Composer? On the same system with your FCP? Any hardware?
I’ve been considering getting the AVID on my MacPro to fill in where FCP lacks…just wasn’t sure if it was worth it or not.

Dont know if you were asking me or not but my AVID/FCP setup is currently both systems on the same boot drive.
However in the past, and I think that I prefer this, is to have to have a dual boot system. Its great with the MAC PRO because you can have two boots and two internals.
FCP likes the latest OS where AVID is slower to catch up. Having a dual boot system was great because it allowed me to have 2 different OS’s.
I really like having both systems available to me, although these days it seems the industry I am in has pushed most folks down the FCP path.

it does help…thank you. I’ve been with FCP for 6 months or so and I’m just still so much slower than AVID…so I’ve been considering having both.
Are you using Media Composer? Software only?

OK…at home I have FCP with a Matrox MXO2. Then on a separate partition of that system drive (I have it partitioned into TWO)…I have Avid Media Composer 4.0.3. I do have a Mojo, but an OLD one. SD only. So it works with DV and all the offline codecs. And if I edit my HD in an SD timeline I can view it and output…but HD..I don’t have the money for the new hardware yet.
Now, at work…very similar setup One drive partitioned into two, one with the OS and FCP, one with the OS and Media Composer. I do this because both versions require different OS and QT versions…my laptop similarly has two partitions, and also runs FCP/Avid. OK, at work we have hardware. I have the Kona 3 on the FCP side, and then the Adrenaline with HD card on the Avid side. Fully functional FCP hardware and Avid hardware setup. Getting the Avid working was a tad tricky (see blog post I will link below) and I ended up installing the Kona drivers so that I could use THAT for deck control. It works, and I can online with Avid or FCP, or use the Duck software to convert one to the other with media. Friggin sweet!
