Here are the basic specs of one of the newest iMacs
• CPU: 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 Quad Core at 1066 MHz
• RAM 8GB RAM DDR3
• HDD: 1T SATA/7200-rpm
• Graphics card: ATI Radeon 4850 GDDR3 512MB RAMWill it work ok with Full HD material using FC Studio 3?

iMac, 27″ iMac, iMac and FCP, etc…… this has been discussed quite a bit since the new iMacs were announced.

I’ll be happy to help you, but first, what exactly do you consider to be “Full HD material?” Let me know precisely what that means to you, or what camera you’re shooting with, and I’ll give you some ideas.

In my book, “full HD” means uncompressed or ProRes HQ. In that case, no.
If you want a powerful, workhorse system that can handle higher end formats, then you really need a Mac Pro tower with a Kona card and a large, very fast drive array.

ProRes HQ actually works fine on the iMac. Of course we have the ethernet SAN attached to our systems.
Uncompressed, absolutely Mac Pro is what you need and of course that’s always the preferred workstation for FCP.
