August 2, 2007 at 5:26 amI believe you need to interpret the footage as no fields and then put it in a comp that is double your frame frate …. so 50fps for PAL….
…please can someone confirm this is correct ….

August 2, 2007 at 6:13 amThat’s the way I have done it. Create something with no field dominance then make it 59.94 and have fun. I have done a lot of retiming work that way.

August 2, 2007 at 6:18 ambut 2 fields are different images with different contents, for exampli in case of a mask.
if you import footage in frame you will lose one filed or you will have them interpolated in the same image. Here you have a problem. Rememeber that in 1 field you see odd lines and in the other one even lines. you need to import the footage in fields.
I get your point but up to now I can’t move my timeline and current view to field by field having different images step by step
Do you see my point ?

August 2, 2007 at 10:43 amDoubling the comp frame rate is correct but you’ll also need to separate the fields of the footage on import (FILE > INTERPRET FOOTAGE > MAIN). When you do this you’ll be looking at each field as an individual frame in the comp panel.

August 2, 2007 at 5:38 pmLet me see if I have understood everything.
First of all I have to import the footage with fields ( odd ) and create a composition with double frame rate of the footage. In my case 50 ftp because I am in argentina PAL.
Now I have fields as frames. Moving frame by frame I will be moving the footage fields by field OK!!!!
Now how will I render the image to have the final footage in pal again at 25 ftp with fields ?
Thanks.

You are right. The new comp solve the last problem. It seems easy now.
Thanks again.

August 2, 2007 at 9:05 pmHey Dave, no need to add the double frame rate comp to a new comp, just render out the double frame rate comp at the original frame rate with appropriate fields.
Also you mention that you can see incorrect field interpretation in the comp panel by stepping forward one frame at a time… I haven’t been able to get this to work, what’s your secret?
The technique I use is to OPTION/ALT double click on the footage in the Project panel then hold down the COMMAND/CONTROL key and use the left/right arrows on the keyboard to step through the footage.

August 2, 2007 at 10:08 pmHmm, I’d still tend to go for the Footage panel technique because it will reveal incorrect interpretation even on very slow moving footage. And even on slow moving footage an incorrect interpretation will result in an incorrect render.

August 2, 2007 at 11:38 pmDefinitely. It wasn’t working for me because I hadn’t doubled the comp frame rate on the example I was testing. Nice one.

August 4, 2007 at 2:25 amSorry I gave some wrong advice. I am so used to doing this that it becomes second nature and I just go through the motions. Dave and John are right and you have to interpret the footage. Sorry for that and answering quickly instead of thoroughly reading my post before sending. My apologies.
