You’re going to need more than just a TV set to do this… you need a way to view external video from a laptop, so will need hardware to sit between the TV and your mac. AJA’s Io Express, or a Matrox MXO2 series box.
The 17″ has that expresscard slot so you’re good to go there with the box you’ll need. I don’t think the MXO can do this with the mini display port.
That said, any TV will work with the inclusion of the box mentioned above. The more you spend, the more you get pretty much. If you can live with a 720 display instead of an 1080, you’ll save about 250 US… I do like most anything Panasonic or Samsung makes for the price…
