Hi there, this is my first post on this magnificent forum. Usually my problems with final cut pro have been solved by browsing older post but this nut is just too strange to crack, as it is extremely specific.

My problem is what one would normally find in a newbie thread since what is happening is im getting no playback in either viewer or canvas, when i press play en either one the audio plays along fine but the picture is frozen on the last seen frame and when playback is discontinued it freezes on the new, present frame. Now a bunch of you will probably want to write about checking my image/wireframe setting or selecting fit to window and such. This has been done to no avail.
It should be noted that the files play fine in quicktime player. Theyre captured from mini dv (PAL) tapes by myself and the sequence in final cut is set up like all my previous dv projects.

It should be noted that the problem only occurs with this material, not with any of my old projects (dv or other), and that i have tried to make a new project, i’ve also tried to export the clips to new quicktime files and re-importing them.

Now comes the strange part, the files can be forced to play “normally” if, and only if, the size for playback is set to 200%, not 50% or fit to window, but 200%. When i found this out my brain exploded, as i can see no logical explanation to this, but hey im editing again. The thing is that the editing process is really being limited by the fact that i have to juggle these enourmous windows around to see whats happening.

I need help. I am working and progressing, but a solution would be greatly appreciated, if for nothing else then just to be able to pick up my brains from the floor.

You need to provide more information. Describe your editing system and how you monitor the picture. Also, what version of OS, FCP, etc. What are your sequence settings? Full information helps everyone help you.

I removed my Kona LHe card and the problem is solved. Unless of course I want to use my Kona card! I had a similar problem with the second monitor with this Mac Pro and my Kona card. I had all sorts of performance issues with my second monitor until Kona came out with an update for FCP 7 (I think – it’s all a little hazy). Why I would suddenly be having these new issues is beyond me. I’m going to put the card back in. Maybe reseating it will help. I’ll post after I try it.
