  iMac, Final Cut, and External monitor — HELP!

  Hi, I tried searching but didn’t find what I’m looking for.

  I have a mid-2007 iMac that has a mini-DVI output port. I’m getting an LCD
  widescreen (full HD) monitor and hook it up to my iMac using the adapter.

  When I’m cutting in Final Cut Pro 6.0, I want to move the Canvas over to the
  external monitor, and expand it so I can see my picture larger..

  That is not the problem, but, when I go to full screen (command + F12) can I see
  the full screen on my external monitor, or would it still show on my iMac?

  I know I can go up to View>Video Playback> and choose Digital Cinema Desktop Preview Main
  When I attach and configure my other monitor, will it show up in the Video Playback menu?
  I assume that if it does, I will be able to preview full screen on that monitor now.

  The LCD is a TV set or a computer display?

  Hello Jerry,

  The LCD is a computer display. I will connect it using a mini-DVI to DVI adapter from my iMac to the LCD display.

  You will be able to choose either monitor for full screen playback. But it won’t be exactly what you’d see on a TV set because the gammas are different between the computer display and a video monitor or TV set, so it’s not the best for color correction. If the source material is interlaced, then it will sort of tear during playback because a computer display is progressive only. There are fixes for this, but just keep that in mind…

  All I need it to do is playback in full screen.
