I am working on a FCP project (5.0.4) on a laptop with 5 external LaCie drives. When I attempt to render the project it only goes to about 23% (everytime) and gives me the perpetual rainbow ball. I go to FORCE QUIT and select FCP (which shows it is not responding). It doesn’t close. I then hold the start button to shut it down and start all over, never getting anything rendered.
I’ve tried copying the project and working with that but I have no luck. I even try rendering one clip at a time—only moderate luck. It is a long project with lots of clips. I would prefer not having to start over.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help. After I posted the question I disconnected the harddrives from the NITRO firewire 800 hub and plugged directly into the computer. Problem solved—rendering and processing fast & fine. This is the first time I’ve had problems with squeezing data through the hub.
