What is the definition for an assembly editor & what exactly does that entail?

THis is typically for a feature film. This is someone who just takes the shots and puts them on order on the timeline…so like ALL the shots from scenes, after ACTION is called, so that you can see all the performances…see all the footage instead of seeing things like ROLL CAMERA, SLATE, MARKER, ACTION, then the shots.
I think. Because that is what AN ASSEMBLY is. Or typically the ASSEMBLY EDIT is the editors original first very rough cut of the show. Just a very rough layout of all the shots you feel are the best. That you later go back and redit tighter for emotion.
Might also mean OFFLINE editor…basically the creative cutter on a show, not the finishing editor, or ONLINE editor.

when we ask for an Assembly, it means taking all the circle takes and slapping together a rough scene.
Otherwise, just like Shane says: cut out all the junk and put it together in rough order.
