Offline to Online edit – timecode slip issues
I have been capturing DVCPro HD footage through a Kona 3 card using the ‘AJAKona3: 525 29.97’ DV setting. Once I edit the footage I use media manager to create a offline project and recapture the footage using the ‘AJAKona3: 1080i 29.97 DVCPro HD’. Media manager is capturing the correct timecode range but I have to slip my video into sync each time. Each time I capture the footage the timecode appears to shift it’s reference to the video. To further confuse matters the issue is not consistent between tapes but is consistent for clips on the same tape.
Example: I might have to slip every clip captured from REEL1 by :01 frame but every clip from REEL2 might need to be slipped by 1:02. The frame amounts do repeat between tapes but don’t appear to have any relation to clip length. The amount of slip ranges from 00:01 – 01:02. This issue is something I have dealt with on many other projects through several versions of Final Cut Pro. Currently I’ve upgraded my system to FCP 7 and the issue still persists.
This has added a significant amount of time and frustration to the on-lining process. Is this something that many of you have encountered or is there something that I am doing incorrectly? I’d appreciate any tips/advice on this issue.
