    hi all

    would appreciate some help

working on a 2 hour sd pal show that needs to have 2 hours worth of sms’s from the viewers
all the sms’s come through in a word doc daily and i would ideally like to paste into a text crawl plugin in fcp (news ticker style – single line running from right to left)

my problem is that apples fcp text crawl cant have more than 5 minutes of text before it displays the characters as jumbled and alex gollner’s improved free fcp text crawl takes 4 days to render on my macbook pro 2.16ghz, cant for the life of me work out the boris title crawl i can only get it to do multi line text crawls

does anyone have a solution for me
either any other suitable plugins or ay other apps that will work with fcp
would be great if it was in realtime as well 8)

    thanks in advance

No idea if this is a viable workaround for you Bruce, but I’ve got a free fixed rate crawl filter that suffers from the same text limit as does the usual filter, however, as the crawl rate is fixed you can use it to align multiple sections of text throughout the 2 hour show that all crawl “as one” so it may at least offer some respite from the 4 day render option.

Similarly you might just use Alex’s filter and try breaking your 2 hours of text into 6 x 20 minute crawls or 12 x 10 minute crawls etc and see if the processing load for the renders are somewhat alleviated that way

As Andy, I would recommend you as well to chop the task.
A 2 hours sequence render at once is always risky.

hi andy thanks for the reply

tried breaking apples fcp text crawl into 48 x 5minute crawls (this renders quickest) but this isnt ideal as the turn around for the show is so quick

thinking i may get a better workflow doing the crawl in after effects and importing the qucktime in fcp

in improvements in fcp 7 anyone
    anyone one used boris crawl

would like to keep all in fcp

I’ll tell you what I’d do under deadline pressure in this situation: I’d drop the sms message text files into a teleprompter program on a laptop, and set it to crawl instead of scroll, amny ptompter programs today can do this.

Then maybe capture the output of the prompter, or just superimpose it using a switcher somewhere down the signal chain, if I couldn’t export an AVI or QT file from the prompter. Running it off a separate laptop may help your work flow in that it lets you keep working on the edit without the render interruption.

    Just a different approach, FWIW

can any with fcp 7 verify that fcp text crawl can do as stated here
is there an improvement over fcp6?
