  Exporting 16×9 HDV video to SD with a letterbox

  Apologies for what must be a basic question. I’m in FCP 6.0.6 working in a 1080 x 1440 HD 16×9 timeline, compressor HDV 1080i60. I’m trying to export “Using Quicktime Conversion” to DV/DVCPRO NTSC with a letterbox, the goal being to make a DVD that my client can review. I have selected DV/DVCPRO NTSC as the compression and 4×3 as the aspect ratio. In the size settings I have selected “preserve aspect ratio using letterbox.” When I look at the exported movie, I consistently get stretched, anamorphic video – no letterbox. What am I doing wrong? Seems like this should be easy.
  I’ve tried searching the help documents, but something in the search seems to be broken, because the help documents won’t search on the exact terms I put in, instead pulling up everything that contains any of the search terms.

  Simplest way is to make a 4:3 SV sequence, edit the HDV sequence into it, render and mixdown, and export to QuckTime Movie.
