  FCP 6 XDCAM unsupported media / invalid directory structure

  Hello.
  I’m trying to work with XDCAM footage from a Sony EX-3 shot at 720P25 and 720P50 in FCP 6.06.
  The footage was recorded to SxS and transferred by the producer to an external hard drive. What I have is a copy of the contents of the external hard drive that is now located on my FCP system external HD (G-RAID2).
  The problem I’m having is that whenever I try to ‘Log and Transfer’ within FCP 6, I get the message “‘BPAV – ….’ contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure.”
  I hope the producer did not alter the names of the BPAV files. ? The naming scheme seems to differ a bit on them. ?
  Why isn’t FCP 6.06 able to transfer import it?
  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Do not under any circumstances alter the BPAV folders, although you can rename them, but as long as they still contain “BPAV” in the name.

  Use Sony XDCam Transfer to convert the MFX files of a BPAV folder or folders into Quicktimes for FCP. I mapped this out in this post: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/142/867472#867474

  So there is also a plugin for Final Cut Pro you can get to edit those stand-alone mp4 files: https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MP4EXImport_Mac.asp Its from Calibrated Software and they actually have a plugin that will allow Final Cut Express to see Sony XDCam as well.

  If somebody have been messing with the BPAV folders, FC is not the one to be blamed.
  Put one of the BPAV folders inside a new folder “X”.
  Open the SONY Transfer Tool and point to this “X” folder.
  If the application tells you that “‘BPAV – ….’ contains unsupported media..” definitively you some body have screwed up the BPAV folders.
  In this case you will need to use the SONY Clip Browser.
  The application will be able to rewrap your MP4 in new BVAP folders.
  When you have the new BVAP folders, you need to do what I told you in the beginning: Put each inside a new folder and use the Transfer tool.
