  23.98 to 29.97 runtime difference

  I have a 720p 23.98 timeline. When we export, we have to deliver a 29.97 HD-CAM. That 29.97 export has to have a run time of 45 minutes (more or less exact).

  What run time would we need to maintain on the 23.98 timeline so that, when we export to 29.97, we’d achieve a 45 minute run time?

  Our math has given us different outcomes. 44:47:08… 44:57:08

  What does everyone think?

  23.98 (aka 23.976) and 29.97 will have the exact same runtime. You’re slowing your video down by the same amount, 0.01%.

  The difference is that 23.98 can only exist in a non drop frame timebase, while 29.97 can be either drop or non drop.

  What you need to do is to figure out what the running time should be in NON DROP FRAME timecode, and cut your 23.98 timeline to that time.
