relinking XMF files for online
Hello,
I am working on a project and all is well except for the fact that the footage that was transcoded into final cut was 8 bit and the XMF files contain 10 bit footage. It was done this way in order to save storage space. I now want to reconnect to the MXF 10 bit files for the colorist. I found a third party software MXF4MAC and wanted to know if this software would be useful to me. I would basically, disconnect the footage in my timeline and relink to the MXF files, then media manage. Is this possible to do?

What format are you in now? I assume the full res footage is AVC-I?

I am working with Apple ProRes.

ProRes is 10 bit. You aren’t in 8 bit.

Thanks Jeremy! If the original files are HQ and we are working in regular Prores should I relink to the HQ MXF files? Would that help the colorist out?

What are your MXF files? AVC-Intra? If they are, keep them as ProRes for the online if they are already in ProRes.
Do you mean ProRes HQ? If so, there won’t be much of a different between ProRes and ProRes HQ.

Yes, the MXF files are AVC-Intra and are Prores HQ. So would MXF4MAC relink to the MXF files without retranscoding. Then from there I want to media manage the HQ footage for online.

Yes, it will, but as of right now, that doesn’t work in Color.
I’d keep the ProResHQ files as they are.
