  • FCP 6 compatibility with DV/Mini DV Decks

Question…I have FCP 6 on my IMAC. Im looking to purchase a MiniDV/DV deck to log and capture into FCP via firewire. Any suggestions on compatible decks?

I found a Sony DSR 30 and a JVC BR-DV600U for a reasonable price. Anyone know if those two are compatible with FCP 6?

    Thanks

Those are both SD only decks. I’ve heard that this HD thing may take off someday.

It’s the 21st century. Maybe you should be looking at a Sony HDV deck. It will play back miniDV tapes, but it will also play back Sony & Cannon HDV tapes. That will open up more possibilities for you right now than buying a used SD onlu miniDV deck.

Arnie is right, But almost any camera with a firewire out port (also called iLink or IEEE1394) will work with FCP. I use an old sony consumer handycam sometimes.

Well the 30 is pretty useless. Doesn\’t support e to e which means if you want to bring in some other format through the deck,you\’d have to record it to tape first.

The 600 has component in/out and maybe xlrs if I remember right, but only does miniDv, not DVCam or DVCPro.

Both are pretty ancient. 10 years old or so.
