  • all of a sudden…dropped frame warning

Posted by Alvin Bicasan on September 13, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Been using FCP (ver 6.0.6) since May this year with same camera (AVCHD format) and with no issues. Now when I playback footage on the timeline, I get the “Warning – Dropped Frames”…obviously very frustrating. Even with old footage that played on the timeline before with no problems, now have the dropped frames problem. It occurs when the playhead reaches between two clips on the timeline.

Don’t know if I unknowingly changed a setting or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated…..Alvin

What’s your system? What kind of drives? Usually dropped frames are related to drive performance. As drives fill with data performance goes down.

Is your 1TB drive the system drive or a second drive in your MacPro?

It is the only drive I have, so I’ll assume it’s on the system drive.

Do you have Disk Warrior? If so, sun it on all drives. If not, get it, and run it on all drives. It is an essential tool that is a must for all who edit on a Mzc.

I do not have a disk warrior. So once I get it, run it on the drive? (I only have one drive.)

[Alvin Bicasan] “I only have one drive.”

You need a separate media drive for editing FCP. The fact you’ve gotten away with editing from just a system drive until now has been just pure luck.

excellent. I guess I have been lucky! So I need to keep all of my FCP media on this 2nd drive when I get it?

    Affirmative.

Oh, and be sure you format it as Max Extended using the Apple Disk Utility before moving any files to the new drive.

Thanks so much David! FCP, as far as the program itself, can stay on the system drive right? It’s all the rendering files, logged & capture files, that need to be ran on that 2nd HD right?
