    Hi folks,

sorry probably a famous problem that one of you can refer me to some similar cases but couldn’t find:

I am new in the HDV realm ….desperately try to connect a SONY HDV deck (HVR M15 U) to a an iMac (2.93 Intel Core Duo, 4 Gig Memory running 10.5.8)

Tried for hours to find out why FCP (6.0.6) doesn’t recognize the deck in all possible HDV protocols.
    – capturting works fine
    – DV mode everything works fine
But when I try to print to tape I cannot even find the deck in video playback.

    Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

First off HDV is NOT DV. It is a completely different format with different properties.

HDV is GOP and iFrame based codec (if you are going to be working in HDV you really should study up and learn about GOP and iFrame) Because of this structure, HDV does not play out FireWire like DV does.

Here are a few links that might help.

    Dear Zane,

Thansk so much. Yes some homework to so, for sure.
I have avoided all the drawbacks for HDV editing (simple denial 😉
especially all the i-frame and Grand Old Party aspects.

So far editing went really OK in HDV, its just the connection to the deck for print to video. It worked..and now stopped working..:-(
