Highlighting a part of text on an Image…
Hi guys,
I’ve been wondering about this but I can’t do nothing… I have an image placed in my timeline so the thing is that this is a picture of a newspaper, great resolution, and I want to highlight a part of the text and I can’t find the right effect…
Can anybody point me out here?
Maybe I can do this also in adobe After Effects, so please if you can help me out, I will be really appreciated!

Use two layers. Add a shape and lower the opacity on one layer.

In fact the technic is to darken the picture except the area you want to remark.
Do as Steve suggests.
There is a “Highligth” mate in Video Generators> Render.

Hi guys,
The client didn’t like the highlight thing, so here I am again to ask for your great help… is there anyway to have an effect that emphasize some part of my image and that way the spectator can focus on the line of the text I’m showing? I can’t show subtitles… it has to be from the image I have from the newspaper… but I want to show line by line…

All the life have been done like that, but if the client doesn’t like it..
Whatever you do basicalli will be the same: a mask for the area that will be highlighted. The rest normally you just low the luma. You can try to apply a blur to the area no highlighted.

Maybe I am doing this wrong… Is there any tutorial about how highlight? Or can you show me about applying the mask, lowering the luma, et al… Because the highlight render effect is cool but maybe i am not using it properly… I want to dark more the rest and have the line real clear, not with oppacity…

Hi Adrian,
You need to:
– Put your clip in layer 1 and 3.
– Put the highlight generator in layer 2.
– Set the layer one to “Travel matte Luma”.
– Drop a filter in layer 1 to low the lightness. You can use the “Pro Anc”, “Brightness&Contrast” or any of the two CC.

I was doing this like you told me, but I think the Brightness and Contrast effect goes in the third layer, not the one, right? Or did you miss one step?
Can I send to your e-mail one sample (2mb) so you can give me pointers in something… It’s just the line illuminated is so dull and I want something shiny…
