Okay. To understnad the assignment i’ve been handled:

I’m capturing textless material uncompressed 8-bit PAL (720×576) -like i always do.
-The sequence i have to place it in, is listed as: 720×576 BUT WITH A (767×576) in parenteze. Avid dv-50 codec.

And when i open the two quicktime files, they’re both different in size! The sequence i have to place the textless in is wider!

I don’t want my textless to look stretched!

Conform the sequence to the footage settings.

Hey Rafael! -You’re ALWAYS the best to awnser quickly, and i REALLY appriciate it! Especially, being a newbie in this game.

But can you specify the “turn it into footage” -process? In FCP? >>And what is the difference between “Footage” and a normal uncompressed 8bit sequence? Except i figured it might be square pixels?

[Max Christensen] “But can you specify the “turn it into footage” -process?”
This “Turn it to footage” it sounds like something from another application to me.

There is no difference between footage and 8b Uncompress material.
Perhaps we could call “footage” the stuff that comes from a camera.
Cameras always shoot according with certain fix standards (codec, size, pixels aspect,..) while when you create a movie with a computer application you can export with the specs that you want.
So you need to keep in mind which is your delivery format and work according to that.

It’s just weird. Be Course i have a file that is an episode from a series, and not footage. Only thing is that is has been trough the avid dv50 codec. And once i pull it into FCP, the format changes to 720×576 when opened with QT. But when i open the referencefile, it’s clearly a wider view i get from the ref-file, fitting the 767×576 frame in QT. This stretches the Graphics i made on the textless, in fcp.

See, it’s NOT going back onto digibeta. They obviously want the file to be “720×576 (767×576) Avid Dv 50”

But i’m having trouble editing in this format.

I could just do a simple 4/3 and export it afterwards in fcp as a 4/3, and the put it trough the quicktime cnversion. But then the text i created get’s a wee stretched. And i don’t want that.

PAL DV50 (whatever the codec) is always 720×576 PAL CCIR-601 pixels (4×3 or Anamorphic).
768×576 makes sense. Is the same 4×3 PAL frame but build with square pixels.
A PAL 16×9 in square pixels should be 1024×576.
767×576 doesn’t makes much sense. Even doesn’t accomplish the “4×4 pixels macro-blocks structure” of the DV codecs (767/4 = 191,75).
Anyway, try checking your DV50 (767×576) as Square pixels in the Browser.

Thanks. i did just that. But exproting the sequence and opening it in quicktime, still showed a frame with difference. Anywwo, a solution have presented it selves. And i now don’t have to deal with annoying codecs. I just have to deliver my uncompressed 8bit…

Aahhh,,, Thank god for uncompressed 8bit….

This is normal Max. By default QT display everything with Square pixels.
What is important is that looks OK when imported to FC.

    Thanks My man!

…i suppose this was the answer i really was looking for! It’s just really annoying still. -I have to deliver the files digitally. And there-for the client opening them, will have a rather dis-formed view of the sequence, being that QT stretches the sequence. -therefor, my credits and text will also appear stretched, when they preview them.

-And there’s no way i’m gonna tell the client to go lock their QT in a certain frame 🙂

Again. Nevermind now. UNCOMPRESSED 8-BIT FTW! 😉
