Shortcut for staggering the beginning of layers in timeline
Annoyingly simple question-since AFX doesnt have it so two pieces of footage snap together when near each other, I need to know how to do that. So then-how do I stagger layers so that the end of one is exactly the beginning of the other?
I remember seeing it in a tutorial somewhere, but I cant remember it at all.

select layers and rightl click and choose animation options “sequence layers” There are some options to overlap.

Staggering can be done by selecting the layers that you want to stagger. Then right-click and choose Keyframe assistant > Sequence Layers. Make sure that overlap is not checked and they should now line up nicely. I am not sure how to have layers move so that they automatically ‘snap’ to eachothers in or outpoints.

got it, that very tutorial was where i originally saw it! it was under ‘keyframe assistant’ in the animation options menu. while we’re at it, something else that i had known how to do but now it has slipped my mind:
the shortcut to align a layer(s) with the beginning of the comp.

Actually you had it right, I said animation but it is indeed keyframe assistant…

Select the layer, then hit Alt+home or Opt+home on Mac.

You can always hold the SHIFT key down while moving layers and they will snap to other layers.
