Posted by Micah Wolf on August 27, 2009 at 4:45 pmEvery time I try to create a new text or update an exciting text my FCP crashes. I wasn’t having this problem before I did the 7.0 update. Is anyone else having this problem.
I am running

Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 3 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
Memory: 16 GBANy help would be great.
Thank you
Micah

August 27, 2009 at 4:46 pmHow did you do the update? Clean Install or just Upgrade?
Clean Install of OS and Studio is the recommended way to do this.

August 27, 2009 at 6:00 pmThank you for your responce. I was running 5.0 and bought the upgrade. I did as the disc instructed me to do which did not include an uninstall of 5.0 but just the upgrade.

August 27, 2009 at 6:33 pmI am not of the “scorched earth” erase-the-drive school. I have successfully updated or upgraded all of my Macs for both OS and FCP products without any problems. (If I have ever had problems, I have forgotten them.)
The move from FCP5 all the way to the new Studio package has heavily impacted everything that is related to Quicktime but that should not have affected any of your text generators’ abilities to see your Mac’s font collections. Font issues are usually related to OS issues so can you use your fonts in other type-intensive applications like Motion, Word, Photoshop?
You might try the usual tool that sometimes fixes stuff like this and repair your system drive’s permissions. Might work. If not, try starting your system from your Leopard system disk and run the disk repair utility. This can tweak thousands of kinked files.

“As has been repeated since the day 7.0 came out by myself and many others on this very forum, to do a proper install from one Final Cut Pro to the next (especially coming from 5.0 which did not include all the other software) the proper method is to erase the hard drive and install everything from scratch.
If you have a Mac Desktop machine with an open slot, just put in a new hard drive and do the complete install to that drive, leaving your current system alone. Then you’ll have the option to boot up either in the original configuration or the new configuration.

October 22, 2009 at 12:24 amMy system was crashing in FCP7. Didn’t used to, but then everything went bad. I went into Font Book and tried to clean out duplicate fonts, etc. Didn’t really help. I went and created new Disc Directories, and cleaned the files/folders using Disc Warrior. Didn’t really help.
However, I’m also using the Blackmagic-Design Multi-Bridge Pro2. Down loaded their latest driver – and presto everything works!!!

November 18, 2009 at 8:16 pmAlso having this problem. Final Cut is reporting that it might be a Blackmagic plugin issue. Currently have Decklink 7.3.2 installed, the latest, which is supposed to play nice with FCP 7 and the newest Quicktime. Haven’t tried downgrading the Decklink software yet, wanted to see if others were having the problem without Blackmagic first.
Micah, are you using Blackmagic as well?

For me, I download Suitcase Fusion 2 and disabled all but my mandatory fonts. Suitcase can do this quite easily for you. That seems to have fixed my problem.
Now, I go to suitcase to look up fonts I want, then I activate them, and use them in FCP7.
It is a work around, but doesn’t really cost too much time in the process.
