FCP save a project W/ no folder?
Hi,
I Forgot to make a new folder in FCP 6.02, so my project of many, many, hours is
living in my Browser. Can I still save it to a folder, and how? Can’t find anything on
this.Thank You

You mean it’s just sitting out on your Mac Hard Drive? Just copy the project to where ever you want to save it.

Hi,
I’ve been saving the project in my time line, I clicked on the sequence box in
my browser ounce and lost the project, I found part of the project in the
auto save vault by clicking an icon their. Most of it returned to the time line. I
rebuilt the lost footage and saw I never made a folder!(just so you know, After this project was started I created my first folder for a
project I have not started, That folder is how I got access to the autosave vault.Can I still do a “save as” create a new folder, Will the scratch disk and the
time line info follow to a new folder? Is their a procedure for making a folder after the fact?
I’m new to Editing and checked the book, blogs and tutorials, but have not found
this one addressed.Thanks – Peter

FCP does not work like Avid. Avid saves everything separately, FCP saves everything in one project. You choose File > Save As and name and send that file to wherever you want. The next time you want to open that project, you double click the “YourProjectName”.fcp file and all of your bins and timelines are in it.

I Saved a new folder to desk top. It has the icon inside of it.
It does not have the scratch or render folders in the new desktop project folder,
just the icon.Since I’m just making this file for a project that I had not previously created
a file for, if I now go into system settings, and set scratch disk location will
it move my current project info to the new folder, or is there a different process
for doing this after the fact?Thanks – Peter

just the icon. “Yes, the media is stored wherever your scratch disk is. That is in your fcp user preferences.

it move my current project info to the new folder,”No. You have to move it or do another save as. I suggest you might read the manual and see how an FCP project file is setup and where the media is stored.

anything else, for fear of losing it.I did a “save as”, made a new folder to the desk top, It has the icon inside of it.
But It does not have the scratch or render folders in it.Can I retrieve all necessary folders, and move them to the new folder?
Is their a process to this – I looked in the book, on blogs, and tutorials, am I
the only one this ever happened to LOL?Or should I just start over…ugg! I just want to know I wont lose it, if I keep editing
and then try to save it as a Hi-Def video, make a dvd etc.Any help is greatly appreciated!

the only one this ever happened to LOL? “No, you just don’t have the understanding of how an FCP project keeps track of media or where the media is stored. The project is basically a pointer to wherever your media is sitting on your hard drive. The media does not reside in the project itself. In ourder to move the project, you need to bring the project file and all the media with it.

You don’t, you leave them on the media array.

“Yes, there is a basic process to setting up a new project and it is covered in the FCP Manual, tutorials here on the Cow and in many other “Getting Started in Final Cut Pro” training products. No need for me to go into details here since it’s in so many places. We also have a Final Cut Pro Basics forum for people getting started in FCP.

“I’m not sure what you’re afraid of losing. If you have named the project and you have a project icon, then the project is saved just like any other application. The current documentary we’re working on has 12 projects saved across multiple machines and they all work together off one capture scratch array.

Hi,
I think I’m a bit clearer. I had assumed that without my scratch, and render folders, in my
my project folder, I would not be able to send my project to Compressor and then to DVD.
