    just got Macbook Pro 17″ 2.8 intel core 2 duo, 4 GB memory OX10.5.7 using FCP 7
    using Apple prores 422 (HQ) 1920 x 1080 60i 48khz sequence preset.
    using panasonic AG-HMC-150 so its on a scan disk. shooting 1080i 60
    using a WD firewire 800 and Esata, but the Esata doesnt seems to work, keeps locking up FCP when transferring footage with color circle.

    Every time I open up FCP 7 and try to Log and transfer my AVCHD footage, FCP shuts down.
    I have trashed preferences already. I have only installed the basic FCP app, havent added the extras yet, like Motion, or Soundtrack. sometimes it crashes right in the middle of working as well. but mostly on import.

    If your drive is misbehaving, that’s probably your problem. Fcp is trying to find data and can’t. Try capturing with a plain old FW drive and see what happens. If the crashes stop, it’s your e-Sata drive.
