  SD to HD without warping image?

  Hello All,

  I have an issue I’m helping someone out with:

  A sequence was edited on a 720×480 timeline. Now they want to move it to a HD timeline. In the process it is all warped (stretched more laterally than vertically).

  I tried exporting the SD timeline in an HD format then re-importing it into FCP and then dropping it onto a HD sequence. Still. The warped image persists.

  Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? Or is this a lost cause?

  SD is 4:3…HD is 16:9. There is more space on the sides than SD has. So what you have to do is blow up the footage MORE to over the sides. The means that you will be chopping off the image on the top and bottom of your original, and you will be pushing in more than ideal.

  What do you hope to gain by taking your SD sequence into an HD timeline? You certainly won’t gain quality…you will most definately lose quality.
