I have some problems with this device
I can see correctly the clips captured with PD170 with QuickTime Player
I can see correctly the clips in the browser of the Log and Transfer window (except of the aspect ratio but this is not a problem)
But after the logging the clip is defected
Video is correct but audio glitches and is unusableSorry for my poor english

Make sure the device is setup using the AV/C Protocol and not the SBP2. Use log and capture. The device will act like a VCR in AV/C mode. The native files from this device have never been supported by any version of FCP (SBP2).

I have the manual in pdf and I change the setting to follow your advice
Now I cant see the DSR-DU1 in my desktop
I think it’s impossible to use this deviceAnyway, thank you

Does the DU1 mount on the desktop? Log and transfer is not used for DV material. If you have DV material recorded on the disk you should be able to simply drag it onto your computer.

I have not used this unit but I did do research on it when it first came out. You should be able to connect the unit via firewire to your computer. Open up log and capture and the device should show up as it was a DV Deck.

I could well be wrong but I’m pretty sure log and capture is only for tape based media.

Steve advice was correct
Is not possible to connect the DSR-DU1 with the SBP2 protocol in the Mac
It’s an official Sony document
So I have to setting the hd like a vcr and is not important if I cant see the hd icon on desktop
There is no problem to capture via iMovie, all is correct
If I try to import directly in Final Cut pro I have this messageError: Final Cut Pro was unable to read the movie file just captured
When I import in Final Cut Pro the files captured via iMovie I have no problem
Only the audio need to render
So maybe this is a possible solution
Capture in iMovie and then import the same files in Final Cut ProI will try to change some audio settings in my PD170 sd camera to see if something change
