Master Templates in FCP7
Posted by Rob Chinn on July 27, 2009 at 11:12 pmJust installed FCS3. The master templates in FCP7 are not working. When I drag one to the timeline (or try to preview it) all I get is a white screen. The control tab is there to modify it, but even after rendering it stays white. Any ideas? Anyone else seeing this?
I’m guessing a complete uninstall/reinstall is probably the answer, but I’m hoping not.

July 28, 2009 at 1:43 amWell, I guess I’m glad I’m not the only one… but sorry you’re having problems too.
Did you do an update over the top of FCP6, or were you doing clean installs?

July 28, 2009 at 2:01 amI did some more checking….
I went to where the templates are located (Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion/Templates/). The preview QuickTime movie there plays fine in the finder and QuickTime Player. The .png file thumbnail look fine as well. I opened the .motn Motion file in Motion, and everything is there and works fine. So for some reason Final Cut Pro just isn’t seeing the files correctly, I guess.
Anyone?

July 28, 2009 at 5:59 amI have installed FCS3 on my Macbook Pro and the Master Templates work fine. I tried the Sequence menu – add master template – overwrite – Skyline-Open.HD.motn and effects menu – master template Atmospheric-Open.HD. Both were editable and rendered fine. Can you describe your steps?

July 28, 2009 at 6:34 amI’m doing the exact same thing as you. No matter what method I use to put the templates on the timeline (or preview them in the Viewer), all I get is white screen.

July 28, 2009 at 4:20 pmI had a similar situation on FCS2 and had to do a clean install. That may not be the answer you want to hear but that was the only solution for me. I had severat people at the Apple store try but they could not find a solution after several trials. Good luck to you hopefully someone may have a better answer.

July 28, 2009 at 11:35 pmReinstall the Templates from the Installer. Perhaps you forgot to check the box in the installer to update them.

July 29, 2009 at 1:24 pmThe templates are there and work fine in Motion. There is no option under FCP during the install to not include them – they’re in the Motion portion, and I installed everything in the suite except the PAL stuff.

July 29, 2009 at 5:17 pmAre you on an upgrade? If so, reinstall everything from scratch.

July 29, 2009 at 5:21 pmHi Kevin. Yes, my first install was as an upgrade over the top of FCS2. Monday night I removed everything and did a clean install, but it didn’t help. I guess I’ll go back and try reinstalling it again, and double checking that I didn’t miss removing something.
Thanks for the help.
Rob
