I took a project started in fcp express opened it in regular fcp and edited a seq – media is pro res 1920×1080 23.98. I sent the drive and my copy of the project to client and when she opens my seq from my saved project in FCP express she gets an error message: Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.
she can play down pro res clips in viewer –
I had her make a new seq in the original proj. and drag my seq from my project in to it but she still got the same error message.
When she opens a new seq in her original proj and drops a clip in to it the clip while needing to render does play…..
when i built my seq i let the clip decide the seq settings. – I don’t know what vers fcp express she has- I was on 6.0.6

    FCExpress does not support ProRes.

Why do you think that the clients
fcp xpress can play back the clips in the viewer. and
They can make a seq and it will play down audio – vid has to be rendered but it will play.

I don’t use FCE. From what I know it supports DV, HDV and AVCHD only.

QT 7.5.5 and up has a built in ProRes decoder. You can see it and play it, but as you said, you couldn’t work with it without rendering. it was rendering it to AIC.
