Capturing 50i footage
I’m trying to capture some DV footage from a DVCam tape that was recorded at 50i.
I’m using the trusty Z1 to play it back through firewire. My device control setting is FireWire PAL and the capture preset is DV PAL 48Hz. The camera is playing the tape back perfectly fine; I can see it and hear it. The firewire output from the camera is set to DVCam, however no video is coming through. What am I doing wrong?

Where can you see and hear it? On the Z1’s lcd?
Do you have deck control over the FW cable?
Under the Menu setings of the Z1 in VCR mode, Scroll down to IN/OUT REC (the 2 arrows) and ensure you’re in DV mode or auto for the VCR output. Check that the A/V-DV out is ON.
Failing that, try a different FW cable. If still no luck, try a different deck/camera if you can. I know that at least one of our Z1’s has a hookey FW out.

Assuming you’re the same Michael Moser I went to school with, let me know if you need to borrow our DSR-25 so you can capture the footage through the analog outputs.

I tried it in “auto” and “DV”, and checked the other parameters. All was where it should be in the camera.

The cable and connector have been working fine up til now. I’m going to try my (or Nick’s) DSR-25 and see if that works. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try component in through an AJA unit to another computer.
Pretty weird. It’s supposed to work.
