  • Final Cut Pro importing HDV 720p30 or 24 footage in segments?

For some reason, Final Cut Pro (I have the latest with all updates) imports HDV 720p30 or 24 footage I shoot with my JVC GY-HD100u camera in segments. Even if I uncheck the box that says “break each time their is a timecode break”. So I am marking it to make it all one long import file but it still randomly breaks up the files into multiple… and not even at the timecode breaks either, just randomly. It is fine when importing 1080i footage, but 720p is when it does it. And I’ve tried several JVC cameras so it’s not the camera. And when it breaks it doesn’t import continually, there is a few second break in the footage each time so you can see the problem this causes.

Is there a weird setting on my hard drive (FAT vs. Journaled ?) or in FCP I don’t know about?

    PLEASE HELP ! ! !

I have been experiencing the same problem, except with the GY-HD200 series camera and 60p. I also have updated FCP (6.0.6) on an Mac Intel. I have tried importing using ProRes 422 and Apple Intermediate Codec, but still get the mysterious dropouts and clip divisions, with missing footage in between.

I have tried every allowable combination of device control presets and capture presets that I can think of.

From what I have read, this seems to be a problem between JVC and Apple, and Mr. Sabourin and I are not the only ones experiencing it. It is a serious problem. Unless there is a pending software/firmware solution to it, Apple and JVC should publish that they are mutually incompatable, immediately.

    Does anyone have a solution?
