  Sonicfire Pro 5 Smartsound FCP Plug-in = Confusion

  If that looks like a rather jumbled subject line, it’s because I’m confused, and the video demo on Round Tripping that the estimable Larry Jordan did (for hire I assume) for Smartsound only added to the confusion. I couldn’t tell whether he was using Scoring Edition or just the FCP plug-in for most of the demo, even though the demo was in the FCP plug-in section of the website.

  I understand the basics: Smartsound makes three products:

  Sonicfire Pro Express Track
  Sonicfire Scoring Edition
  FCP Plug-in

  I get the distinction between the first two. I’ve been delighted with Express Track, and I don’t particularly want to get into the complexity of the Scoring Edition. So the plug-in has perplexed me: the concept of integration with FCP looks great, but don’t you need the Scoring Edition in order to do any round-tripping?

  I’d be very interested in whether the FCP plug-in has met or exceeded your expectations, and whether you need Scoring Edition in order to tap its full potential.

  The FCP plug-in works with various versions according to the SmartSound website, including SFP4. It basically uses FCP timeline markers in the SFP timeline and lets you send a mixed file back to FCP. Here’s a post I wrote about it that might add more info for you:
