  • Alpha Channel Creates Video Stutter

    Workflow…

Project is built in Final Cut.
Titles are built in After Effects, with the same settings as the FCP comp, rendered out Animation codec RGB+.

When imported into FCP, the video that has a title over it is jittery/stutters – this jitter carries over to whatever format I export a final to. Any thoughts?

What’s the FCP sequence setting and the Comp setting in AFX? Feels like a field issue or a frame rate issue. I work with RGB+ animation AFX files in FCP all the time without too many issues. FCP does occasionally interpret the alpha channel incorrectly, but that’s an easy fix.

Ah yes, today’s broken record. I’d like a button for all postings to be added- “But did you render?” 😉

Just had this issue myself recently and found that the advise in this thread about using Cinema Tools worked for me.

Sometimes adding a drop shadow to the alpha footage makes it all screwy. It’s a bug that has been around long as I can remember. Try adding or removing a drop shadow.

This is so weird. I’ve been using AE since CoSA, always use Animation as the primary interchange codec, and i have never had a stuttering issue on a fully rendered playback.

Rendering or even saving a lorez preview is so simple but so foreign to video people. I wish I had a dollar for every AE newbie who has shouted their dismay and disappointment, expecting AE to play everything all the time in real time.
