  • How to install Paul Crisp 32-point and 64-point garbage mattes

Posted by Chris Davis on July 19, 2009 at 1:00 pm

I am trying to install the Paul Crisp 32-point and 64-point garbage mattes.

I downloaded them here (below), but they’re also all over the Net from a Google search.https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/eureka.html

I read that they should go in Library/Applications Support/Final Cut Pro Support System/Plugins.

Problem is, once I download them, they don’t seem to really want to install (OSX did not ask for my password, for instance). I can drop them in this location (Plugins), but then what? Are they installed? Are they then usable by FCP? Where would they be within FCP?

(If I click directly on one from “Plugins” inside the Finder, I get “File Error: Wrong Type”.

Just a humble novice here. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

I had actually already looked there. I have doubts as to if even really installed, even though they are both sitting in the Plugin folder (“32 Point Matte.3” and “64 Point Matte.3”. Any guesses on what’s going on or what a proper instillation would be?

Sounds like you’ve done everything right.

If I recall correctly, the Paul Crisp garbage mattes show up in their own folder, marked “Paul Crisp”:
    Effects>Video Filters>Paul Crisp

It would be nice to put them in the same folder with the other garbage mattes, but I could never figure out how to make that happen.

If you figure it out, let us know!

    Good luck.

Just a thought: was Final Cut already launched when you placed the Plugins? Have you quit and relaunched since?

And there they are, in all their 32 and 64 point glory. Funny I used FCP for about quite a while yesterday and didn’t notice the “paulcrisp” folder. Many thanks.
