    Hi there oh ye experts.

Would anyone be willing to think with me what may be the problem here?

Am really new to fcp, and am having trouble with the audio tracks.

Have started with .aif files, but then re-exported them from qtpro as aif again (16 bit, 48kHz, PCM, stereo) due to this situation:

Files play fine when not in fcp.

When importing into sequence for 48kHz, they will only play on certian tracks of the timeline (eg. plays on A1,A2 and A13 A14), but other tracks they will just not play (mute is not on, and sound is turned up). Also, in the viewer, they will not play at all. Also sent to Sound Track Pro and the sent file is not working either except as above.

Any clues as to what is going on?

Thank you so much for your kind consideration of thinking about this.

    Sincerely,
    Hope

Double check to see if the audio output is set to just 2 channels in the sequence settings.

Do other audio files play fine in your timeline right now?

Try using iTunes to convert them to 16-bit 48k files.

    Dear kind and good Russ,

Thanks so much for your help.

In the item properties for the sequence:
    audio: 6 outputs,
    aud rate: 48k,
    aud format 32-bit floating point

    dont see channels listed.

Yes, all the audio is doing this.

Also, the video is not playing in the canvas, only in the viewer.

There is not rendering red lines showing either.

Under sequence ‘settings’/audio outputs, it show 6 outputs:

1 and 2 0 for downmix, toruping: (stereo)

for 3 -3 downmix; for 4 off (dual mono)

    for 5 and 6 -3 downmix; (stereo)

not sure what any of that means, doesnt mention the word ‘channels’.

Did I answer any of your questions correctly?

Thank you again for your attention and expertise.

    Sincerely,
    Hope

Soooooo, now it is working!!!! Wow, you really helped me. Everything is working, except the video is still not show in the canvas for playback, all tracks and viewer playback is now working for the audio.

Went to Sequence Settings Audio Outputs tab and made sure that ‘stereo’ was checked for the 6 tracks that I listed in above post.

Do keep getting a ‘warning’ box:

“The current audio device does not support the number of outputs set in the Sequence Settings Audio Outputs tab. Unsuppported outputs will not be heard during playbac on this machine unless downmixed to Stereo”

There is a box to check, which I just now check, (but still keep getting this warning).

I checked: Downmix all outputs to Stereo (Toggle in Audio Mixer)

    then clicked OK.

    Any more great ideas?

    Thanks again,
    Hope

just noticed that there is a grey line about the video in the timeline.

have tried to render with every possible option and no render happens…

    what do you think?

    thanks again…

The gray line in the render bar indicates the material does not need to be mixed.

    All the best,

    Thank you Tom….really appreciate.

OK, now I see…the video preview was not set in the viewer to RGB. Now it is all working.

Thank you Russel and Tom so much for your help.

    Very kind….

    Sincerely,
    Hope
