Writing back to disk – Final Cut to PDW-F75
Dear all,
I have a problem with writing back to disk on a PDW-F75, maybe someone can help me:
The PDW-F75 is connected via HDSDI to the AJA Kona LHe card of my Mac. (I use Final Cut 6.05 and the XDCam Transfer tool Version 7). When I try to export the clips out of Final Cut, there is no option to export to the machine (HDSDI out to PDW-F75)…

That’s because you cannot export via the HD-SDI connection. You “Print to Video” to get it back to your disc.
OR
You can export via the XDCAM Software Transfer program, but you’ll have to render all of your timeline into an XDCAM HD setting then back to disc. This will take some time to do. BTW, you have to use a firewire connection to do this, just like the import procedure.
How did you capture the footage used? Did it come from the disc or was it from some other source? What codec was it captured into? Was it the XDCAM HD settings?

Thanks for your help. The footage was imported from a disk via HDSDI connection with Apple Pro Res 422 HQ- codec as far a I know.
Which way would you recommend to write back to disk? And what settings? -
I’m sorry… but I don’t mean to sound short with you. BUT… These steps are elementary to video editing and it concerns me that you are asking such elementary questions?
If you capture and edit in a particular codec, its ALWAYS best to write back to disc or tape in the same manner. So, in your case. Your footage was captured in ProRes 422 via HD-SDI. Then, you should write back to disc using HD-SDI and “Print to Video”. There should be no settings to set, other than the “Print to Video” dialog box. Make sure that you have machine control and write back. That’s it.
