  How does AVHCD mix w/HDV in FCP6?

  I know nothing about AVHCD but I think I’ve heard that it doesn’t edit well in FCP. I want to hire a shooter who’s camera shoots in this codec but my other shooters will be on Sony’s shooting HDV. Can i mix them on one timeline in FCP? What about field orders in 1080 60i? urgh.

  Well, FCP doesn’t edit AVCHD natively, it imports it as AIC or ProRes. So it immediately is converted into an I-Frame format. If you convert HDV to ProRes then you are all set! Best to convert everything to an uniform codec anyway.

  Shane’s right. Converting to ProRes is a great way to go. I also suggest keeping all of the original source files from the camera and backing them up. Use reel names too for each time you copy stuff from the camera. That way, if you need to go back to bring in some new footage, you can.

  Also, try to shoot the same frame rates if you can. Most HDV and AVCHD will be 60i, so it shouldn’t be a problem unless you’ve shot at some other frame rate.
