I am editing my television show for the first time and I noticed when it aired tonight that the quality was less than the show before and after mine. I am using FC Studio, Mac Pro Quad Core with 8 gig of ram. The show has to be put on Beta SP and I have tried some different conversions to get the best quality but I am not getting what I want. I have looked through the threads, but have not found exactly what I am looking for. Should I be using a AJA card or something to output it to my Sony GV HD700 Deck? The network that it is going to is Pursuit, which is a SD satellite network on Direct TV. I have been outputing to my Sony GV HD700 to mini dv and then letting another company go from MiniDV to BetaSP. The show is shot in HDV on Canon XH A1’s mostly. It is edited in HD also. It is shot as best as can be allowed. It is a hunting and fishing show so there is not a lot we can do in the field LIVE. We white balance and I do a lot of post color. I am sorry it is so long, but last time I did not give enough information. Thanks.

The intermediate step to miniDV and then on to BetaSP would cause a big quality hit.

Also, how are you downconverting your HD timeline? Best practice would be to finish in HD and let a Kona card handle the downconvert to BetaSP.

I would be asking DirectTV if they can take an HD mpeg transport stream and deliver that way via Compressor. HD to DV to SP is a horrible workflow.

Next best is HDCam. Why SP?

Why should I not repost? I am asking someone for help and they asked some questions. I appreciate the answers from everyone. As for you… get a life and find someone else to bother!

[Tommy Martiniere] “Why should I not repost?”

There actually are good reasons Tommy, principally because reposting is a major inconvenience for forum leaders and to those who take the time to answer an original thread in the first place. Trust me, as the #7 leading poster of all time here on the Cow, the few rules that we ask people to follow really help us to help people just like you better. We are all volunteers here who want to help others as much as possible, and every little bit of help we can muster to keep things organized and to minimize duplicated efforts further enables us to be of assistance to more who need us.

    Meanwhile, welcome to the Cow…

Well, for one, I will never respond to you ever again. I know that you’re crushed, but tough luck. I wouldn’t know which post to respond to, and since I don’t really have the time, I’d rather let you twist in the wind than have to choose which of your postings to respond to.

I asked you a series of questions in your first post. Now I don’t think I need to see if you even bothered to answer, because you were obviously too impatient to actually go through the process of trouble shooting out why your show looks crappy on TV. You seem to be expecting someone to tell you “click your mouse here, and it will all look like David Lean”. If you can’t be bothered, why should I?

[Tommy Martiniere] “As for you… get a life and find someone else to bother!”

No thank you. I already have a life. Quite enjoyable, by the way. Hot girlfriend, nice apartment… And the shows I finish look terrific!

Very winning attitude, BTW. Guaranteed to keep me from ever bothering you again. Especially when I can tell you that one click answer- I’ll just cackle & click the button to skip over to the next thread!

I am extremely sorry! I have just been put under a lot of pressure and I had a deadline to get the next show out. I should have been more patient, but I am very anal about what I am doing and it was driving me crazy. I shouldn’t have lashed out at you… you are just doing your job and I am new to all of this and I should have respected your answers. I won’t bother anyone here again. I am truly sorry for taking out my frustrations on you.

Arnie, I am sorry for this. I respect your decisions and I understand why. I was not in my right mind and I apologize to you also. On other sites, you can PM someone to return their posts and everything moves along quicker and I was just impatient, like you said, because of a deadline. I won’t bother anyone on here again. Again, my sincere apology.
