  “Time Stop” Effect – Help

  In Final Cut Pro, I’m trying to get an effect where the time freezes, and text comes up. At the moment I’m using the “Make Freeze Frame” to do this, but there is a problem.

  On my video there is a small black border (I don’t know why, but its fine), but when I do the freeze frame, the picture doesn’t have a border. I can put a border around it using “Crop” but it looks a bit jumpy because they don’t look the same.

  Does anyone know how to fix this? Or another way to get a time stop effect?

  There are a few different ways to make a clip stop with FCP

  One way is to use Time Remap in the Motion tab of the Viewer.

  Double click on the clip you want to freeze in the Timeline to open it up in the Viewer.

  In the Viewer go to the Motion Tab.
  Open up the Time Remap at the bottom of the list you will see a diagonal green line.
  Play the clip and stop where you want the still frame to occur.
  Press P (Pen Tool) on the keyboard.
  add a keyframe with your Pen Tool by clicking on the Green line inside Time Remap where the Playhead is.
  Click and let go exactly on the keyframe you just created to reveal its number
  Go to the end keyframe in the Viewer and drag down that keyframe to match the same number of the one you created. This causes the video to Stop going forward.
  If you are having trouble getting the number to match, Click on the keyframe THEN hold Command
  and drag. This causes your dragging to move slower.
  Press A to go back to your Arrow tool.

  There are other ways described on page 345 of your User Manual. Some easier that this.

  Thanks for the help.

  I have one more question.
  I’m doing the freeze frame way, with smoothcam filter on. If I split a clip halfway to get the freeze frame, the scale zoom for smoothcam means one of the clip pieces becomes bigger than the other. Is the only way to fix this, applying the smoothcam filter, exporting the clip and bringing it back in? Or is there a simpler way?
