    Hi all,

I am capturing selects to reassemble a 1080i project using Prores. I’ll then layback to HDCAM tape at 1080i. I have a weird issue where when playing back my captured footage in a 1080i, 29.97, upper field pro-res timeline… with video playback set to 1080i 29.97 on my Kona card through FCP, the picture will drift on my broadcast monitor compared to the real time playing in my canvas. By the end, it’s completely behind. If I change video playback to 720p59.94, everything locks up fine. Any ideas why I can’t monitor the sequence in 1080 on my broadcast? I’m afraid trying to layback the sequence at 1080 I’ll have the drift issues… won’t I?

    Thanks for any help!

you have it backwards, that kona card forces FCP to output the content correctly ( SMPTE standards for color and frame accuracy) while your output to the canvas does not have to be accurate or correct.

why are you watching the canvas when you have a broadcast output?

are you sure it is a 1080 29.97 project?

‘sound as if it is a 720 project – if that is where timing matches if that is TRUE –edit your project in 720p then use the Kona3 output to cross convert to 1080 60i on output.

    Hey Gary,

Thank you for the response…. yea, I do monitor from the broadcast, just weirded out why things aren’t synced up I guess. I don’t have my audio layback in yet, but I feel like the picture on the monitor is drifting out-of-sync…

And yea the project is 1080 on interlaced HDCAM tape… deck is set to 1080. I’m capturing 1080i 29.97 Pro-Res… sequence is the same. I’ve edited another 1080 project recently and I don’t remember having any issues… with this project I had some sync issues with an earlier spot, same shoot. Could very well be user error on my part, but I feel like I’ve everything set-up fine…
